The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that the Third Mainland Bridge will be closed on Friday midnight and will not be reopened until January 2021.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Works and Housing Mr Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday, July 21. He also explained that the maintenance of the bridge was aimed at replacing damaged parts for a better motoring experience.
This maintenance is going be carried out on a length of 3.5kms out of the 11.8kms total length of the bridge.
He agreed to the fact that the closure will lead to difficulties in the short term, but encouraged road users to be patient as it is better to wait and allow the six months of work and closure than to allow the bridge to collapse completely which would take many years to repair.
