Healthy diet for babies
For babies to grow healthy and develop to become healthy adult,they need the right diet.
Healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition,a healthy diet start early in life according to W.H.O, breastfeeding babies and young children have a long term effect on their health,such health benefits include
1. Reduction of the risk of becoming overweight or obese and developing non communicable diseases later in life.
2.feeding babies exclusively with breast milk from birth to 6 month is important for a healthy diet.
3.it is also important to introduce a variety of safe and nutritious complementary foods at 6 months of age,while continuing to breastfeed until your child is two years old and beyond.
Also you can introduce solid food to your baby once the baby shows the following signs
1.being able to hold his/her head up and sit with support.
2.hooking, searching and grabbing for food.
3.baby seems hungry even after a full breastfeed or bottle.
4.baby progresses from sucking to biting.
Healthy diet for baby must include iron fortified baby cereals,chicken,legumes.
The diet of young ones must include the following
Protein:Beans,soy,unsalted nuts and seeds.
Fruits;Fresh,canned and frozen fruits not fruit juiced.
Vegetables:Different types ranging from green to red and orange,beans and peas,canned or frozen.
Grains:whole grains such as whole wheat bread,oatmeal,popcorn,white bread e.t.c
Do not let your young children consume too much of sugar and saturated fats.
